01 Gau Seva (Cow Protection & Welfare)

About

At Sri Santh Sadananda Yoga Asram Trust, caring for cows is not just a service, it is a sacred duty. Our Goshalas (cow shelters) provide abandoned, injured, and aged cows with safety, nourishment, and love. Each cow is treated with gentleness and reverence, as a symbol of motherhood and divinity in our culture. Our Goshala spaces are clean, peaceful, and built to ensure cows can live healthy, comfortable lives. They are cared for daily with attention to their physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Sri Maha Vidyanandagiri Mathaji’s Vision About Goshala (Cow Care)

She teaches that Gau Seva (cow service) is one of the purest forms of dharma. She believes cows are not just animals, they are sacred beings that give without asking and reflect unconditional love. Her vision is to create shelters where cows are respected, protected, and healed. She often says, “In the eyes of a cow lives the silence of the Divine.” For Sri Maha Vidyanandagiri Mathaji, protecting cows is a spiritual offering and an expression of gratitude to nature.

Purpose of Our Work

The purpose of our Goshala is to provide a safe, loving home to cows who have been left behind or mistreated. Many are old, injured, or abandoned after being used for labor or dairy. We give them a peaceful place to rest, recover, and live with dignity. Our goal is to protect these gentle beings, spread awareness about compassionate cow care, and revive traditional practices that honor cows as a part of spiritual life and village well-being.

Seva Opportunities

You can be part of this sacred seva in many meaningful ways:
  • Sponsor daily feeding or medical care for a cow
  • Donate fodder, medicines, or shelter materials
  • Volunteer to help with cleaning, grooming, or Goshala upkeep
  • Offer service during special Gau Seva events
  • Celebrate birthdays or anniversaries by feeding the cows

How We Care for Them

Our cows are cared for with complete devotion. They are fed with fresh fodder and clean water, receive timely medical attention, and live in clean, shaded spaces. Special care is given to aged and injured cows who need extra support. We also include them in our prayer rituals and treat them as part of the Trust family. The Goshala is a space of peace, not only for the cows but for all who visit, serve, or simply sit in their gentle presence.

What Impact We Created

Thanks to the support of our donors and volunteers, we have rescued and cared for many cows who were once suffering or abandoned. They now live in peace, eat healthy meals daily, and receive regular medical care. Our Goshala has become a place where children learn compassion, villagers reconnect with tradition, and spiritual seekers experience the joy of silent service. It is not just a shelter, it is a living space of grace.
